APRIL 18. 1902. 3 Citg ant rir sXstorC CHAUTAUQUA DIRECTORS MEET, At a meeting of the directors of the Chautauqua in Cr-Hills office last Saturday afternoon, the committee on grounds, of which Jacob Zeigler' is chairman, was instructed to Becure a tent not less than 80x120 feet for the assembly meeting in -This tent will seat more than twice, the people that the one last year did. The contract for furnishing the other tents will be awarded thla month and those desiring locations for tents can, get them of Prof.

E. B. Bentley general superintendent. The season tickets-were ordered printed soon aa possible. Each person on the reception committee will receive a supply of circulars advertising the Chautauqua which they are expected to distribute in their neighborhood.

Many other matters were discussed regarding Improvements, which is to be settled in the future. ELOPERS FIND DR. HUNTER. A. dispatch from Vincennes, Ind, gives the following, Dr.

W. Hunter, formerly of Clinton, being the minister who made glad the hearts of the elopers: A. Shannon, junior mem ber of the firm of W. Shannon Son, wealthy stock dealers of Noble, and Miss Florence Pleasant, only daughter of W. P.

Pleasant, a merchant of Noble, eluded the vigilance of their parents and came here and were mar ried by the Reverend W. A. Hunter of the Presbyterian church. The bride is a Catholic and they first endeavored to have the Reverend Father Fleischman of St. Johns German Catholic church officiate, but he politely informed them that a special dispensation from Bishop Cbatard would be necessary.

After the couple agreed, on insistence of the bride, to be married again a priest in Evansville, a friend secured for them the services of the Reverend Mr. Hunter. They hurried to Evansville, where, the bride is quite a social favorite, having until recently resided there, her father being a member of Goodwin overall manufacturers, in Evansville. The Christian Reapers held an allday meeting with Miss Mary Welch yesterday and assisted her in bouse cleaning. BARN BURNED, Friday night about 6 oclock Alvah Jeffrey, of Wapella, was at bis barn and within fifteen minutes after he returned to his house, he saw the barn was on fire. He hurried to the barn and found the fire had started in the stall and burned so fast that he only had time to get his horses out.
